Since Darkling, I’ve had a lot of time on my hands, pretty much went into solitude both after being down about the band ending, and frustrated with the music scene in general. Show attendance was dropping, turmoil/arguments within the band; it seemed that what was once fun was becoming increasingly stressful. As soon as the band completely dissolved, I felt maybe it was a good time to retire from music for a while at least.
I’ve been out of touch with many of you for quite some time, probably long enough where some of you maybe stopped visiting my site(s) completely. Haven’t played live since June of 08, and with my new found free time I decided it was a good time to dig into the world of Home Recording.
A few months back, I received an email from recording artist Rian Stallkamp, from Los Angeles, who asked me to do some vocal work for him. I went into Watchmen studios, and laid the vocals down for 1 song (Edge of Thorns) and sent him the files over the web. This worked out great and I really had hoped to get more into collaborating over the web.
Right around the time of Darkling’s demise I got an email from producer Thomas Vitacco, in Chicago asking if I’d be interested in doing vocals for his latest work because his last vocalist, do to time constraints, was unable to work on his latest project.
I listened to the music and was immediately impressed by not only his past work but his current work. Within minutes of listening to his music, melodies were pouring out of me with an ease I haven’t experienced since working with Darkling. Only problem was he had an entire CD written and there would be no way I could afford that much time in the studio. That was the only thing holding me back.
Tom told me that he and the vocalists he worked with all have recorded from home studios. I told him if he helps me set up a home studio, then I’d be happy to record the vocal tracks for him.
Tom & Rian pointed me in the right direction, gave me tips and advice, and it took me a few months of trial and error to get a decent sound going. After all my work, I must say that I have a new found respect for sound engineers, and what you guys do. Getting a good sound is just a difficult as writing a good melody or lyrics. I take that back, it’s a lot harder.
Without going into to much more details I’ve posted some new songs that will be on the next Worwyk CD. I hope you enjoy!
